Free MSDN Ultimate subscriptions including Visual Studio 2010

Introduction

A couple of weeks ago Microsoft sent me a set of three (3) give-away MSDN Subscriptions (Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate with MSDN) for me to delegate to those who might want and need one.

I thank the Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET Framework product team for making this possible.

How will I distribute these free MSDN Ultimate subscriptions?

  1. Number one:
    1. Anyone who gives me a valid enough reason to receive a subscription will get one – first come, first served.
  2. Number two:
    1. On our next SSUG (Sweden SharePoint User Group) meeting that will be announced shortly I will randomly distribute one to an attendee that do not already have any subscription
  3. Number three:
    1. On the SEF (SharePoint & Exchange Forum) conference - in one of my sessions – I will distribute the last one of the MSDN Subscriptions

The value of an MSDN Subscription is rather high, so I do hope you appreciate the gesture from Microsoft and the VS and .NET product team :-)

Hi, as a big fan of Microsoft technologies I find myself often limited by trying out new stuff due to the lack of software licenses. Esp. when it comes to features like the database design support in VS which I cannot use in the free Express version. I often stay longer at my work to be able to use the license there but it would be great to be able to do more at home. Please have a look at my homepage what stuff I do to decide whether I am worthy or not ;) . Regards, Felix Kollmann

Quite frankly, free subscriptions are the only way I've been able to afford to continue to try to support myself. I motivated a former development partner to enroll in the Empower ISV program with me but he only wanted something free and bailed as soon as he got what he wanted so we failed to meet our obligations to release the software I proposed; a search-enabled Office Research Task Pane that used SaaS to host RSS web feeds. Of the two of us I'm the one who is still trying to persist via METROmilwaukee.com and eventually hopefully Windows Azure. I could apply with WebSiteSpark but an MSDN subscription provides all of the software resources to establish a business startup by providing --all-- of the software necessary to develop an entire solution which answers the questions every prospective customer has asked of me when marketing to them: show me what you got and what's in it for us.

I would like to apply for the free MSDN Ultimate subscription because it would enable me to access The “Feature Pack for VS2010 Visualization and Modeling Tools”. This feature provides Forward and Reverse Engineering functionality which is exactly what I need to grow my start-up business. The business focus is on a number of financial derivative migration projects which require significant re-engineering and new architectural development efforts. I believe the success of the business depends on the use of VS Ultimate Round-trip engineering that is available through the subscription. However, I do not have sufficient funds to meet the MSDN subscription cost, and therefore would appreciate receiving the free subscription.

I came from *NIX side of the world and having had to work with Java for years. However with the emerging of .NET technology as well as ASP.NET framework, My personal opinion is that Microsoft has finally gotten something right this time. I'm in the process of transitioning my main development platform from Java to .NET. This subscription could help me along this long and interesting journey, Thanks.
