Introduction

mcpd_sp2010_dev

The SharePoint 2010 exams are final and has been released so you can head over to your local training center and take the exams when you feel ready for it.

I recently passed both the TS and the PRO exams for SharePoint 2010 Development, and I ought to give you a glimpse about what they’re all about, and where to find more information.

Two certifications to become MCPD: SharePoint

Exam 70-573 - TS: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Application Development

This is the first exam in the series of two, and is the easiest one to pass as well. Quoted from the Microsoft-site about the exam:

A Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Application Development should be able to perform the following tasks:

- Write code that extends SharePoint 2010
- Add and support code to an existing project
- Write code for and test custom features in a SharePoint solution such as a Visual  Web Part or Event Receiver
- Implement a solution designed by lead SharePoint Developer
- The candidate should also have the following experience:

Exam 70-576 - PRO: Designing and Developing Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Applications

This is the second and final exam in the developer series, and differentiates from the other exam in that way that it covers more stuff about solutions deployments and strategies. Quoted from the Microsoft-site about the exam:

The candidate is responsible for designing custom code for projects that are deployed to SharePoint servers. This includes technology selection across the many ways to build code in SharePoint, ensuring the team development environment is configured, creating a strategy for code deployment, versioning, configuration, or structure.
The candidate also leads a team of SharePoint developers, has at least two years of SharePoint development experience, has at least three years of ASP.NET development experience

SP 2010: Certification exam details for SharePoint 2010 published

Introduction

Microsoft has published the two developer-oriented certifications for SharePoint 2010 on Microsoft Learning.

Personally, I think there is a huge improvement now as we're not only getting the MCTS-credit but can now also become an MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer) on the SharePoint platform. Something I've been waiting for a long time ;-)

SharePoint 2010 exams

For us developers/solution architects there are two certifications of interest (of course you should do the IT-pro tracks as well, but let's start here with the developer ones):

  1. 70-573: TS: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Application Development
  2. 70-576: PRO: Designing and Developing Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Applications

SharePoint 2007 Exams

Way back in 2007 I wrote about passing all 4 certifications for SharePoint 2007 (link here). For SharePoint 2007 there is four certifications for the 2007 product-line:

  1. 70-541 - TS: Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - Application Development
  2. 70-542 - TS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Application Development
  3. 70-630 - TS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring
  4. 70-631 - TS: Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Configuring

Summary

So, keep an eye out on those two new certifications and be well prepared when they arrive - should be a fun ride :-)

All certifications passed successfully - Let's get on the blogging-train again!

As some of you know, I've been rather absent the last couple of weeks and not really replied to mails and comments in the blog. This is because I've concentrated on taking the SharePoint certifications, aswell as being out in the country (Sweden) and consulting.

I hereby proudly let you know that I've successfully passed all the four SharePoint 2007 certifications, listed here:

70-541, 70-542, 70-630, 70-631

With that said I hope to get some more time for the blog now ;)
Keep the comments and mails coming, it's highly appreciated.
